A little update from Altogether Human CIC

A little update from us

A summary of our recent developments...

Altogether Human CIC now have spaces for low cost counselling with our counsellors in training. In certain circumstances these spaces are free, so if you’re feeling the need to talk something through but can’t afford therapy fees at the moment, please consider this option instead.

We have Hanna, a psychologist who qualified in Ukraine but has been working with us in Manchester for the past couple of years. She is doing a Masters in CBT specifically, so is really good for anyone who is troubled by past trauma, might have PTSD (or might not) or who is struggling with anxiety or low mood.

We also have Rebecca, who is doing her Diploma in person-centred counselling and can provide a great space for anyone wanting to talk through challenges in life, major decisions or relationship issues.

Low cost counselling and CBT

If you would like to talk to Gemma or Jasmina about this, or our other options for counselling and / or psychotherapy, please just email Suzanne on hello@altogetherhuman.org.uk so she can book a 15 minute phone call into our diaries.

Parenting children with anxiety - our pilot with Chorlton schools (and beyond).

Last year, we were commissioned by the NHS to run a pilot group for parents of children who are experiencing anxiety where this was affecting their attendance at and ability to join in at school. We ran a 10 week group that was open to parents of selected children at the local Chorlton primary schools. The results were good, with parents and the schools reporting long term improvements in school attendance and a reduction in anxiety in their children.

We have been asked to run more groups next academic year and to make our offer a bit more flexible. So we will be offering a webinar, a workshop and small groups at the local schools in autumn term. If you’d like to know more about this, please email Gemma on gemma@altogetherhuman.org.uk. These will be funded by the NHS and will therefore be free for families to attend. If you are a parent of a child who attends a Chorlton primary school and you would like to know more, please speak to the school about it to see whether they can refer you.

If you want to know more about this project but you don’t think you fall under the Chorlton primary schools involved, please still feel free to email Gemma (gemma@altogetherhuman.org.uk) as we will see what we can do to create something helpful for you over the coming months.

Relationship tip of the day...

Never ascribe to malice that which can be explained by incompetence.

Hanlon’s razor.

We find this saying helpful when we need reminding that our assumptions shape our relationships. It is tempting, particularly when we are in conflict, to assume that someone has done something deliberately. But what does that set up within us? How will we respond with love and compassion if we assume that the other person is the enemy? Giving someone the benefit of the doubt is a loving act that will serve to bring you closer together rather than driving a wedge between you. Mull it over - and feel free to let us know what you think!
